Four Toddler Educational Toys
It has been believed that in order for your child to excel in school, he or she should start learning at an early age. If you are thinking about teaching your toddler the way you teach older kids, then you are bound to face a great obstacle.
We all know how toddlers are. They are still growing and their brains are still developing. Their cognitive ability is not as mature as the cognitive abilities of an eight year old. Kids in different age brackets differ in their learning capacity; therefore, your teaching style should also vary.
Actually when you are dealing with toddlers you are not really teaching them, you are merely guiding them in their development. Keep in mind that toddlers love to play and they might not be able to understand everything that you say. If you are really intent in giving them their early education, then you might want to try a different approach.
What do toddler's like? Toys, of course. They love to play and all they have in mind is play. Of course, they won't be able to grasp the whole idea of addition and subtraction nor will they be able to understand complex words. So all you have to do is to incorporate teaching whenever they are playing.
There are a lot of toddler educational toys from which you can choose. One thing to keep in mind, keep it simple and fun.
1. Musical Push and Pull Toys. Toddlers love playing with toys they can push or pull around. As we all know, these tykes are restless and they can't seem to stay in one place. Giving them musical push-pull toys will not only allow them to move and have fun but at the same time enhance their hearing. Toddlers love to listen to nursery rhymes and as they push or pull their toys around they can repeatedly hear the song and eventually memorize them. A way to help them improve their vocabulary.
2. Simple stories from story books. Toddlers love hearing stories of animals and pets and they would prefer to listen to it over and over again. One of the best times to tell a toddler a story is when they are about to sleep. When you are telling them stories, read it to them slowly and make the words clear. We all know that toddlers have yet to develop their vocabulary and they usually get the words from the things that they here. If they demand that you read it again then read it again.
3. Blocks. These blocks can either be stuffed or made of wood but it would be better if you get the stuffed blocks for safety reasons. These blocks are usually colourful and have designs on all six sides. Some blocks are filled with letters, others with numbers and some with animals or daily items. If you want your toddler to identify things, you can use these blocks and whenever he or she gets it right, let him pile up the blocks. This is a great way to introduce things to them, things that they usually see at home.
4. Peg boards. Toddlers love peg boards because they can hammer it all they want. Choose peg boards that depict shapes like stars, squares, circles and triangles. This is a fun away to teach your child the different shapes because he or she will have to match the matching shaped in order for him to successfully put the peg in.
Toddlers have short attention spans so don't expect them to sit and listen to you; instead, play with them and at the same time teach them. They will cooperate more if they are having fun.
